The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Volta region of Ghana under the leadership of Hon Makafui Woanyah has donated some gift items to forty new mothers at St. Anthony’s Hospital at Dzodze in the Ketu North Municipality. This was done on behalf of the President of the Republic Ghana, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Hon Kofi Dzamesi, the Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs and the entire NPP to commemorate the Mother’s Day.
In his welcome address, the administrator of the hospital, Mr. Tumawu Raphael was full of praise for the kind gesture and the numerous social intervention programs implemented by the NPP government to better the lots of the poor in society.
The midwife in charge of the maternity ward appealed to the Regional Chairman of the NPP in the region to use his good office to influence government to build a new maternity ward for the hospital since the current one is not spacious enough to accommodate the growing number of mothers.
Yevoo Pope Yao who spoke on behalf of the the delegation, highlighted the importance the NPP government (past and present) attaches to the plights of women. He talked about the free maternal care introduced by President Kufuor, free NHIS cards for pregnant women among others.
The entourage was made up of the Regional Chairman, 1st and 2nd Vice Chairmen, the Regional Secretary and other executives, Hon Anthony Avorgbedor, MCE for Ketu North and his wife. Others include Constituency Executives, a cross section of polling station women organizers and a host of party members.
The mothers were full of praise and gratitude for the gesture extended to them.
